Here’s my advice on how you can relocate successfully with a local agent.

Relocating seems to be a hot trend right now, but how do you prepare for it? Moving into an unfamiliar area can be tricky, so today I’ll go over my best tips for relocating to Anacortes.

My first tip is to hire a local real estate agent. It might seem like calling a big city agent is the way to go, but the issue is that they don’t know the area. School zones, neighborhoods, and amenities are things that only a local can really understand.

My second piece of advice is to work with a local lender. Your local agent probably has a partner lender that will work with you non-stop to get the home of your dreams. On top of that, local lenders are very competitive when it comes to interest rates. Local reputation and recommendations mean a lot to them, so they’ll compete for your business like no one else.

My next tip is to set good expectations for your house-hunting trips. You should communicate with your local agent ahead of time about what type of house you’re looking for and what your time frame is.

You should also set aside a day or two to explore the local community. Checking out schools, marinas, or any other feature of the community that interests you will give you a feel for the area.

Finally, you should try to understand the process. The better you understand the process, the smoother your transition into the new community will be. For example, a typical closing in our area is about 30 to 45 days.
